Welcome to Mt. Ida Congregational Methodist Church

Our Pastor

We are currently seeking a full time pastor and leader.  If you are a pastor and seeking a home, please contact us for more information. We are a conservative Bible believing church, in a rural community, central to Geneva, Enterprise, and Dothan, Alabama, and DeFuniak Springs, Bonifay, Panama City, and Destin, Florida.  We are a family oriented church and accept all new comers as family.

Numbers 27:16-17

Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd.

Welcome to Mt. Ida Congregational Methodist Church Church

Bless Us In Our Revitalization Project (Pardon Our Progress)

At Mt. Ida Congregational Methodist Church, we strive to create a welcoming and inclusive community for all. Our mission is to spread the love and teachings of Jesus Christ while fostering a sense of belonging and fellowship among our members.

We are currently in the process of remodeling portions of our church.  We are beginning with the Fellowship Hall, bathrooms, and kitchen.  Don't worry, we are  still having dinner on the grounds, banquets and suppers (see announcements for dates and times).

Once we complete the Fellowship Hall we will begin on the Sanctuary.  Don't worry, we are still going to have service.  We will be holding services in the Fellowship Hall until our Sanctuary is complete.

We would love for you to come for a visit (or on the regular), and watch our progress as we ask God to REVIVE Us Again!  Come join us and experience the warmth and love of Mt. Ida Congregational Methodist!

Do all for the Glory of God.

Mt. Ida CMC Brief History

History

The doctrine and spirit of primitive Christianity have existed at different times and in different degrees in the branches of the Kingdom of Christ. They were embodied in a new form in this wise:  in 1729 two young men (brothers: Charles & John Wesley) in England reading from the Bible, saw they cold not be saved without holiness, followed after it, and incited others to do so.  In 1737 they saw likewise, that men are justified before they are sanctified; but still holiness was their object. God then thrust them out to raise up a holy people.

After many failed attempts to work with the Methodist Episcopal Church to solve problems for a growing America and churches, twelve men came together in the parlor of Brother Mickelberry Merritt, in Monroe County, GA, on May 8, 1852, and the Congregational Methodist Church was formed. Brother Merritt said, "We were not influenced by prejudice or ill will towards one minister or member of the M. E. Church, but we love them yet as brethren, and look upon them, in the main, as good and holy men."  Just a few years after the organization of the CMC, Mt. Ida Congregational Methodist Church was started (possibly around 1876).

Although we have records that date before 1899, the first official mention of the church name, Mt. Ida Congregational Methodist Church, is in 1899, and we consider that as our official established date.  Our church has seen many changes over those years. The church building that we have today is the third church building and was began in 1918 and completed in 1922 with a few additions and changes since then.

Congregational Methodists are conservative, evangelical Christians in the Wesleyan Arminian tradition. Our faith is grounded in the infallible, inerrant, inspired Word of God. We believe that the scriptures are God's revelation of Himself to us, as well as the rule of faith, containing all the truth necessary for faith and Christian living.

Mt. Ida CMC is a member of the South Eastern Coastal Annual Conference of the

Congregational Methodist Church General Conference.
